Day 10 - Help!

Hey everybody! this is Cheng. I am in the middle of English class right now. I need to go to art wing right now to talk to Mr. Dawson for the help. So I will keep you guys update later when I get the result. I also need to go to library to get NYT newspaper about companies news and other newspapers. See you guys later.

Day 9 - Drawing

I had drawn my first couple piece of images. It is coming out great. As previous day I was talking about  using fake/imaginary money to invest in stock market as example to you guys. I have been buying and selling a lot of different stocks. News are really helping me. News on the paper could not be completely trustworthy, same as what other people tell you and company website. It takes a lot of thinking and researching. I will post my final poster with my investment on the side of images. Therefore, you guys will understand the concept of the whole investing process in stock market. Make a better living can not be taught in a poster, My poster will help you and start your thinking about the easy concept of the investment in both stock market and buying bonds from different countries.

Day 8 - Final decision

Today, I am roaming around internet. I watched a video about success from youtube. It was one of the video that my english teacher, Mr. Igoe, showed my class few weeks ago. Let me describe this video real quick. It is a person draw while he is talking about how to become successful basically. Ideas kept pop in my head. "This could be the future" I thought. Fact about me is that I love drawing but it is not my strong suit. Therefore, I thought I could of use some help from my last year drawing teacher, Mr. Dawson. I have not have the time to ask him since I am a athlete. I played Golf as a sport represent Lawrence Academy to competition in the golf match. We came in as a tie with Middlesex even though we beat them the first time. (It is all Hannah's fault: our #1 golfer.) Anyways back to the topic about the project. I will talk to Mr. Dawson tomorrow and figure out that if he could help me with my project in the drawing part. Oh, I forgot to mention that I will be doing drawing and writing on the side of each piece of the project to explain and tell you all what does the image mean from my view and why is it there.

Day 7 - Select Companies

classic investment - stable companies that everyone buy products from them daily

McDonald - it is a fast food company that have millions of chain fast food restaurants all over the world. In China during meal time, hundreds of people waitting in the line to get fast food from McDonald. KFC is another example of company that has stable stocks. Well, KFC is not doing quiet well as McDonald but they are two biggest fast food chain restaurants.

Day 6 - Research

News are very important for a person to invest. If you do not know what the world is going on, you will not be successful in your investment.

Stock Market - Stock market is a exchange of market.

Since last week, I have been paying attention in world stock market. Recently, Ukraine is a war with neighbor country Russia. War is a very cruel. Countries produce or buy weapons inside and outside the country. I would not invest in the company of Ukraine and Russia companies without war related. I would invest in the companies produce weapons. Best example is World War two, America was in the middle of the Great Depression. Franklin D. Roosevolt made the decision to go into WWII by providing weapons to both sides. United States' economy was back to normal after the WWII since America made a lot of money from other sides.

Also, I would invest in the companies around the globe. Mostly, I am willing to invest my money in the developing countries like India, China, and Philippine etc.

Day 5. - Model Invest in Stock Market

After having my mid-term presentation today, my classmate, John, gave me an idea to add on to my magazine about Business.

"You should invest in the stock market with fake money and show people what you can do in four weeks."- John

If you read my blog in Day 2, you would of see that i mention that my team at Cardigan won the 2nd place in the competition sponsored by Fidelity. We doubled the "money" that gave us.

Anyways, I will show you day by day and take you with me to make your life better.



First Step: Research about a few companies.

              what are the companies you should look for? duh. Nobody know. if you know everything inside information about one company because your relatives work there, you are doing something illegal. (well, don't ever get caught. once you get caught, you will be in jail for a very lonnnnngggg time. Actually, just STOP! )

Research about a company is not very hard to do. First of all, you have to think one question. "what does everyone want?"

Day 4 - Ways of Investment

April 20th, 2014

I have not write my blog for a day and a half. My senior project is going better than I expected. I came up with more idea to add on my final spring project. I was thinking about doing a (formal) magazine for all adults to read to invest and make their lives at least a little bit better. Now, I came up with better idea. This series of paper would not called magazine because I am trying to let my readers to understand what I am trying to teach as easily as possible. My new idea is drawing a lot of cartoon characters represent different types of people in the society in real life and have conversation with each other to get out a solution to help them invest and live a better life. The conversation and ideas will come from real life workers who does not really get the idea of investment. I will do a survey outside the school and select random workers in different categories of jobs.

Survey Question:
1. Do you know what is investment?
2. What do you think about investment?
3. What is your income?
4. Did you ever invest? (Stock Market, Housing Market, Funds, Bonds, etc.)


I talked to my father on the phone last night about Investment. From previous blog,  I warned you guys that higher income requires higher risk. Stock Market can make a person very wealthy or force a normal human being lose their mind and commit suicide. Millions and millions of dollars come in and out the accounts from all kinds people. every minutes, each one of the stocks goes up or down. A person can lose thousands even millions of dollar in a minutes as the price of the stock go down, even just a penny. Some people invested in companies that they have never heard before. They did it just because other people told them that this company is doing very well. I personally feel sympathy for those people because other people got it from other people. This is the power of rumor.

Day 3 - How to Invest?

April 17th, 2014

Wall Street is a beautiful and wealthy place. It is all business investment major students' dream. Working on Wall Street is incredible, i imagine. I wanted to have my own office in the tallest building on the Wall Street after seeking for what i wanted and look down the littles houses near Manhattan. People will be walking down the street beneath me. They will be so small since I will be very high up looking far away.

What is Investment and How to Invest?

Definition of Investment: "the action or process of investing money for profit or material result."

Conversation between a stock broker and high school student that I made up :)

"Do you know how to invest in something?"said Steve, an success and old wall street investor.

"I do not know man. I am still a high school student," said Bobby, high school student.

"Invest is happening all around you." Steve said with a smile. "Did you sell something to someone, like your friend,  that is more than you paid it?"

"Yes? I guess." said the student with confussion. "One time, i spent  5 dollars on a Pokemon card. Since it is very real character, he gave me twenty dollars for it."

"Here you go son. This is investment." "If you smart and sharp with great convincing skills, you will beat all other competitors in this cruel business battle." Old man said as he walked away.

Day 2 - Business

April 15th, 2014

Today, Mr. Igoe and I had a conversation about my final project in English class. It reminds me that I have to spend my last few weeks to work on something I want and I like with my skills. It is the fourth day working on my project today. Golf is my favorite sport and hobby. As previous plan, I wanted to make a magazine about golf form of golf legends and teach people how to swing a golf club effectively, not slice or hook. Today, I was on the phone with my father and he had a conversation about college and future work. It reminded me of my dream and goal since I was a little boy which is Business. Business is a very broad subject and I want to make a magazine about this. It would be interesting instead of reading just articles. All this came from the younger me.

Since I was little I’ve always known I wanted to enter business. One of my first memories was watching my dad follow stocks in the living room. I loved the dots, lines, and the numbers with different colors. By the time I was six, I would sit with my father, listening to him explain the different symbols, and what that meant for different stocks. It may seem weird, but ticker symbols and charts give me a feeling of warmth and excitement. 

When I was in ninth grade at Cardigan Mountain School I got a chance to join a New England stock market competition created by Fidelity with some of my Algebra 2 classmates. I was the leader for our team SNILEFTCHED (it’s a hockey thing). Our dream team, Adam Phille, Luke Bennet, Max King and myself had unbeatable communication while buying in or selling out. While the other three researched domestic companies, I focused on the Chinese Stock Market because certain Chinese companies were having a great year, especially the government owned companies. There were so many companies doing great after the recovery from the 2008 U.S. Depression. Of course I called my father for suggestions, but ultimately, I made the decision to buy the alcohol company Wuliangye. There were many complex reasons for my choice, but the result was it became our biggest earner! In the end, our team won 2nd place in New England with a profit of around $100,000.

Throughout high school, I’ve tried to join any business and investment opportunity that I got. I took a summer Macro and Micro Economics class at Brown and realized there were some big and underlying theories out there, waiting to be put into action! Two years ago, I participated in a Citi Bank internship. I went from the classroom to the field, meeting complete strangers and facing struggles in the real world.

All this started with the closest person I know, my father. He is CEO of a large medical company, manager of Angel Investment Organization, and shareholder of many companies in China. I followed him on his trips and watched the different business styles of different business leaders. Since I’m a curious person, I’m usually full of questions during these travels. It has taught me that I am most interested in the investment area of business, and developed a sense of appreciation for Angel Investment. I want to follow in my father’s footstep and become a successful investor and business owner to return to society what I have been given.

I have a pretty good idea on what I am doing instead of working on business. My father would be very helpful to my final project and I would get a lot of information from him personally since he is one of the most successful and closest person I know. I would also do research about how the richest people in the world became so wealthy and their background stories. I just want to provide people around the globe to understand the basic idea of business and how to use those concept to live a better life. 

Day 1 - Begin

April 13th, 2014 DAY 1

Today is Sunday. It rained in the early morning but sun came out after noon. Most importantly, My favorite golfer Bubba Watson won the Master. It is his second time win Master and earn himself the Green Jacket (p.s. Green Jacket is all golfer wanted and dreamed). Anyway, let's get back to the main idea, Senior Spring Project. I have been thinking about this project since Mr. Igoe handed out the work sheet but I could not decide what i am going to do since everyday i came up with a better idea for the senior spring project. 

List of Idea

April 10th, 2014 - I want to design a book for the Chinese student to read before they came to United States. The book would be around teaching them how to social with others instead of hanging with their only friends from their country.

April 11th, 2014 - I want to do research on how to make money from Stock Market since I will be taking Investment courses in college next year.

April 12th, 2014 - I want to write collection of poem for the government. First Amendment in the Constitution gave me the idea that I have the right to speak in my own opinion.

April 13th, 2014 - i want to write a story of me playing golf and meeting challenges. I want to teach kids how to play golf and why the golf balls slice or hook for a beginner.
